Enlisted by Wheeler Kearns Architects, a series of interior graphics and icon systems were employed to foster a positive and clear shopping experience for volunteers and clients alike. The design is informed by hours of observation and strives to increase efficiency and bring joy to its clients. Large, colorful graphics and signage help communicate functionality and locations of foods in both verbal and non-verbal ways, making it easier for those with low-literacy to understand how to navigate the space, while adding some levity to what is a serious and sometimes overwhelming experience. sound, braille, eye contact to facial features. The contemporary condition is one of constant communication. In this pair of site-specific artworks, all of these forms are taken back to the basics by finding inspiration in cave paintings, and the origin of human visual expression without written or spoken word. The work is constantly communicating the message, even if the viewer doesn’t know the language.
