Communicating with another person offers a wellspring of options from images, video, writing, music, poetry, sound, braille, eye contact to facial features. The contemporary condition is one of constant communication. In this pair of site-specific artworks, all of these forms are taken back to the basics by finding inspiration in cave paintings, and the origin of human visual expression without written or spoken word. The work is constantly communicating the message, even if the viewer doesn’t know the language. In this, the hands are both art and language, a visual study of gesture and form, and a phrase to be read.
